Serving for - 3
Ingredients
Whole Masoor Dal - 1 cup
Onion - 1 (finely chopped)
Tomato - 1 (cut into cubes)
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Red chili powder - 1 tsp
Sambar Masala - 1 tsp
Oil - 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Pinch of asafoetida
Curry leaves - 6-7
Dry fenugreek leaves / kasoori methi
Lime juice - 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
Cilantro for garnishing
Procedure
- Soak masoor dal overnight. Add soaked dal, 2 and half cups of water, chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder and salt to taste in a pressure cooker. Cook dal till 4 whistles. Once the pressure goes away, open the lid. Mash the dal little bit.
- Heat oil in a sauce pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, pinch of asafoetida and curry leaves. Let them crackle. Add chopped onion and saute till it turns translucent. Add ginger garlic paste, red chili powder and sambar masala. Saute for few seconds.
- Add cooked dal and mix well. Add water and adjust the consistency of the curry as per your requirement. Let the curry boil. It will take around 5-6 minutes. Add kasoori methi, chopped cilantro and lime juice. Let it simmer on low heat for 5 minutes. Serve hot with chapati, naan or plain rice.
Often when I make dal I prepare the same old thing, its nice to see that you are adding fenugreek leaves along with sambar powder. Will do that next time I make dal.thank you.
